James Middling is a global leader in the planning, design, and delivery of major built environment projects, with nearly three decades of experience at Mott MacDonald. He currently serves as Global Market Leader for Major Events & Venues, overseeing teams across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and North America that deliver sports and entertainment venues and major games infrastructure. Prior to this role, Middling served as Global Built Environment Sector Leader, reporting to the Group Executive Board and shaping Mott MacDonald's strategy across the full infrastructure asset lifecycle. He also led the firm's Global Sport & Events practice for nearly five years and served as Divisional Director heading its global sports team for the UK, Europe, and Africa. Earlier in his career, Middling held structural engineering roles at Bechtel, R T James & Partners, and Connell Wagner. A passionate advocate for sport-led community regeneration and urban renewal, he holds a BEng in Engineering from the University of Manchester and is recognized for his expertise in BIM, stadia and arena design, and complex major building developments.
